Anjunadeep vol. 02 mixed by James Grant & Jaytech
Feb 13th
Anjunadeep:01 emerged as one of 2009’s most critically celebrated dance compilations, garnering album of the month slots and remaining in recommended album sections months after release, culminating in a nomination for best British record label*.
For the second installment, Above & Beyond hand over mixing duties to Anjunadeep A&R James Grant and Jaytech, their opening DJ of choice. Each mixing one CD, the pair bring together 28 exclusive tracks and mixes from the label’s varied and multi-talented roster.
Anjunadeep:02 demonstrates why the imprint has become the master navigator of the murky waters that lie somewhere between house, techno and trance, winning fans such as Laurent Garnier, Dubfire, James Zabiela and Eric Prydz along the way. Both discs showcase a unique melodic style that is spacey, hypnotic and at times soulful, underlining the widescreen vision of label owners Above & Beyond.
For CD 1, Grant’s mix weaves together tracks and remixes from 16 Bit Lolitas, Jody Wisternoff, Oliver Smith, Solarity, BT (‘Flaming June’ remix by Jaytech & Grant), and more.
On CD 2, Jaytech, whose artist album, ‘Everything Is OK’, received widespread plaudits in 2009, seamlessly blends productions from Paul Keeley, Martin Roth, Boom Jinx & Andrew Bayer, Marcus Schossow, Jamie Matrix and beyond.
“Scouts the secret alleys and distant corners of progressive music and returns bearing rare treasures” Mixmag (Album Of The Month)
“Get up close to the speaker and you’ll hear that Anjunadeep is working on a sound all of its own” DJ Magazine
“Euphoric not cheesy, soulful not syrupy: this is fine, trance-edged house with substance” IDJ

ABOVE & BEYOND PROVIDE SOUNDTRACK TO VIRGIN GALACTIC’S NEW SPACESHIP LAUNCH
Dec 9th
British dance act serve up theme to SpaceShipTwo plus exclusive DJ set at launch event
When Virgin Galactic were looking for some atmospheric music to herald the launch of their ground-breaking ‘SpaceShipTwo’ this week, they turned to the UK’s biggest DJs, Above & Beyond.
At an event hosted by Richard Branson in the Mojave Desert, the track chosen to accompany the official unveiling of SpaceShipTwo was Above & Beyond’s club anthem ‘Buzz’, which samples Buzz Aldrin’s original moon-landing dialogue. To mark the occasion, guests were also handed a special ‘Galactic Grooves’ USB wristband, featuring a selection of Above & Beyond’s songs.
After the unveiling and naming by governors Richardson and Schwarzenegger, Above & Beyond performed an exclusive DJ set in front of an audience of 800 dignitaries, celebrities and soon-to-be astronauts, plus the assembled global media.
Jono Grant from Above & Beyond said: “We’re big fans of all things space-related and so in terms of dream gigs, this is up there alongside our performance in Rio to 1million people. We’re now hoping to persuade Richard to let us DJ on the first Virgin Galactic passenger flight into space!”
The launch party also featured the first ever ice bar in the desert, hosted by Absolut and Swedish IceHotel, and all the guests were protected from the desert cold by designer space jackets supplied by PUMA. Finally, to close off the celebrations, all the guests were given the opportunity to view the stunning night skies using specialist telescopes supplied by Ron Dantowitz of the Clay Observatory, whose unique tracking cameras followed SpaceShipOne into space during the epic flights of 2004.
Virgin Galactic is the world’s first consumer space travel operator, with flights costing $200,000. Check www.virgingalactic.com for details.

Ferry Corsten @ The Roman Arenas Bucharest (10.10.2009) [Event Review]
Oct 12th
As you probably know I’m not very good at writing reviews, my friend DRN is the master of those so I’m gonna try and keep it short and simple. I want to start by saying that this is my number 2 event until now, Armin Only 2008 at the same location ( minus the tent) being my #1 (maybe because dancing in the rain on trance gives you the greatest sensation you can have). The organizing was great (unexpected for a The Mission event….in a tent even), the tracklist was great, the warmup DJ’s we’re great and of course Ferry…oh..Ferry….he was a god, living proof that you don’t need cheesy vocal trance tunes & other stuff to make a fantastic set enjoyable to absolutely everyone, no matter they we’re new to trance or trance lovers like myself. The sound was the main problem, but if you can get past that it was a night to remember. I’m sorry I missed Snatt & Vix, I mean I have only heard them for like 10 minutes and after Ferry I was too tired to stay longer. I also liked Lange, but his style of mixing was funny, many people including myself found it very amateurish and also his tracklist was aprox. 90% vocal tracks, which again I didn’t expect, many people didn’t quite enjoy it. So, in conclusion, seeing Ferry is a must and if you can go this week to see him in his hometown in Rotterdam @ Ahoy I think you’ll have the time of your life, thank you Ferry for a great night, a night to remember.
PS. Forgot, the other bad thing (well actually not that bad) is that the tracklist was somewhat predictable, I mean, I have the Backstage DVD in my car and there were many similarities, but that’s what happens in a world tour right, no matter the genre of music, you get to hear aproximately the same thing in every location.
PS2 Betsie Larkin is smokin’ hot and Made Of Love with live vocals is absolutely heavenly…
Here are my iPhone pics….I always forget to take my camera at these events to get high-quality pictures.
Off To See Ferry & Lange @ The Roman Arenas [Event]
Oct 10th
talk to you soon to tell you how it was.
Deadmau5 @ Tineretului Park, Bucharest [Review]
Aug 22nd
So I decided to go in the last minute because I am really bored. I’m really not that excited, I heard on several forums that the guy is a dick, that he mixes only his tracks and remixes and doesn’t give a fuck about the crowd, just puts music for himself, also I’ve heard that he disconsiders all the DJ’s saying that “They’re Fucking Cunts”. What a cunt he is indeed…
But, well, I have nothing better to do tonight so why not give this guy a try, I like his productions, it’s tech-trance so what could go wrong, right?
I’ll make a short review tommorow, maybe add some pictures…
PS I forgot, it’s held in a fucking tent, again, don’t understand why, it’s fucking summer, it’s hot outside.
LE When I arrived at the location one friend told me that I was wrong judging Deadmau5 like that, and he was right.
The event was awesome, that guy is fucking nuts, he plays some sick tunes and dances around like crazy, really connected to the crowd, communicated with us, even played one of my friend’s request (his remix to Kasakade’s “I Remember”). That mouse head FTW!!!
Great gig, great music, although it had a bit boring part in the rest it was just really hard stuff, and I know what I’m saying because now I have a problem with my left ear (hope it will go away), and I was standing quite far from the speakers. Hard stuff, some boring tech and great trancy tunes all combined to form a wonderful set. Thank you Deadmau5 and sorry I misjudged you. I don’t know why but last night this guy reminded me of Fatboy Slim.
Also the tent thing was not bad because there weren’t alot of people so it wasn’t overcrouded or very hot inside and you had lots of room to dance.
PS Mixing with Abelton is the shit!

Ferry Corsten – Twice In A Blue Moon The Experience @ The Roman Arenas, Bucharest [Upcoming Event]
Aug 22nd

Well, this is some great news, another trance event to add to the great series of events here in Romania in 2009. Mr Ferry is coming for the second time this year in Romania, this time with a show organised by The Mission. The vent will take place on the 10th of October at 10PM @ The Roman Arenas in Bucharest.
The Good:
- it’s a full night show, like Armin Only so apart from great live performances no more minimal,tech-house etc.
- no more minimal, tech-house etc.
- only trance no more minimal, tech-house etc….I guess you got the point
- Lange as the opening act
The Bad:
- it’s in a fucking tent, I fucking hate tents…
Really looking forward for this one…
